Rev. Dr. Randy Hammer
The United Church
congregation is led by Rev. Dr. Randy Hammer.
Dr. Hammer is a respected, well-educated minister with
over 30 years of pastoral experience; serving churches in Tennessee,
Texas and New
York. Dr. Hammer has earned four degrees including;
Bachelor of Science with double majors in Philosophy/Religion and English,
Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Literature, and a Doctor of Ministry in
Congregational Leadership.
He is also a published writer with six books to his credit,
including: Celebration and Joy: Worship Resources for Contemporary Churches;
Dancing in the Dark: Lessons in Facing Life's Challenges with Courage and
Creativity; Everyone a Butterfly: 40 Sermons for Children; The
Talking Stick: 40 Children's Sermons with Activities; 52 Ways to Ignite Your Congregation... Practical Hospitality; and The Singing Bowl: 26 Children's Sermons with Activities.
Dr. Hammer has an inspirational list of career
purposes. He seeks to love God with all
his heart, soul and mind, and to love others as he wants to be loved. He seeks
to live a life of compassion, understanding and justice. He also hopes to discover the universal truth
found at the heart of all the great religious traditions, but which have found
unique expression in the Judeo-Christian tradition, especially in the teachings
of Jesus Christ. He strives to work for
universal sisterhood and brotherhood among all peoples of the world and affirm
the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Rev. Hammer and his wife Mary Lou have two grown, and
accomplished, children living in Mississippi
and Morristown, TN. The family has enjoyed many years of
traveling, and has managed to visit all 48 contiguous states of the country
over the years, as well as various locations in Mexico
and Canada. Dr. Hammer has also traveled to Israel
and Jordon. His other hobbies include
woodworking, furniture building carpentry, and storytelling.
Visitors are
always welcome to attend services at the church, located at 85 Kentucky Avenue (behind the former Alexander
Inn), Oak
Ridge, TN.
Services are held at 8:00 and 10:00 each Sunday morning. Childcare and Children's Sunday school are
offered at the 10:00 service. Adult
